About Our Team
The skeet-shooting team is under the direction of Odell Frazier and Daniel Moran. It is strictly for high-school students, but the supervisors are currently working on a plan to include Jr. High students. The skeet team is currently using the Jera Center's skeet range in New Johnsonville.
The student must have either a 12 or 16 gage shotgun, and must have passed the hunter safety test. To make the sport more affordable, for students that cannot obtain any necessary resources because of financial problems, the supervisors are working on a plan to provide club guns. The club guns will be availiable to anyone on the team.
Registration fee: $10
You may reach Daniel Moran, at the alternative school, at 931-296-2568 ext. 243 for any questions regarding the skeet team.

SCTP
The Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) was developed by the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF). SCTP provides Tennessee's youth an opportunity to compete with their peers in clay shooting competitions. Each person participates with others in a team of shooters. Most of the teams are regognized as a school endorsed program such as 4-H or the Boy/Girl Scouts.
The program has grown enormously since its inception in 2001. More that 1600 youth are registered SCTP shooters in Tennessee. Approximately 540 trap shooters participated in the Trap Championship Shoot in 2006.
SCTP teaches the youth firearm safety while installing the values of ledership and teamwork. The program will help mold better sportsmen and women in Tennessee.

SCTP History
In the town of Andover, Massachusetts, in 1920, a small group of upland hunters started to practice their wing shooting. The used clay targets. A system was made to keep friendly competition fair and even between the rivalries that started to develop amongst the group. This crude way was the beginning that evolved into the modern day version of skeet shooting, developed for hunters and non-hunters across the world.
Charles E. Davies, a native of Andover, Massachusetts, who was a businessman and avid grouse hunter, is credited with the invention of the skeet game we know today.
The word "skeet" originates from the Scandinavian word for "shoot". Gertrude Hurlbutt, a Dayton, Montana housewife, is credited with giving the game its name. Other possible names for the sport were "Bang" or "Bye Bye Blackbird".
