Graduation Activities
The following guidelines will be used in determining a student's eligibility for participating in graduation activities:
Seniors who qualify for the homebound program will be allowed to participate in graduation exercises if they completed all other requirements.
Seniors who take more than two courses by correspondence will not be allowed to participate in graduation exercises, but they will be awarded their diploma privately.
Students in the GED + 2 Exit Option program will be allowed to participate in graduation exercises and will receive a GED Diploma (State Department of Education Regulation)
Seniors who lack more than one credit will not be allowed to participate in graduation exercises. Also all English requirements must have been met. Diplomas will be awarded privately to these students when they have completed the required work.
Seniors who owe time for early or late detention or for Saturday School will not be allowed to participate in graduation exercises until the time is made up.
Students are expected to participate in all graduation activities. They shall wear the traditional cap and gown and other attire as directed by the administration (Male students: blue or black dress pants, dark shoes-no tennis shoes- white collared shirt and tie/Female students: dress or skirt and blouse-no tennis shoes or casual flip flops). The apparel shall be the personal expense of each student. Also, students are expected to conform to school dress, grooming and behavioral guidelines at graduation exercises. Students who fail to meet these guidelines may be excluded form graduation activities.
Students who do not wish to participate in graduation activities shall make this known to the school principal. Non-participating students will receive their diplomas, or certificates, from the principal's office on the day following graduation ceremonies.
Any senior that has been remanded or allowed to enter the Alternative School Program and is a student at the Alternative School at the time of graduation will not be allowed to participate in the graduation activities.
Scholarships
In the past two years, over $1,000,000 in
scholarships have been issued to WCHS Seniors. It is the responsibility of the
student to check the scholarship postings on the wall outside of the Guidance
Office, pick up applications and return completed applications to the Guidance
Office before the deadline.
